1 Programme Outcomes
On completion of the programme students should have achieved and demonstrated skills in the following four areas, in accordance with level 6 of the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland 2008 (Bachelor’s degree with honours) (www.qaa.ac.uk/academicinfrastructure/FHEQ/EWNI08 ) and the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) (http://en.moet.gov.vn/?page=6.13).

Benchmark: The Learning Outcomes of the programme have been informed by the QAA benchmark statements for Languages and Related Studies (July 2007).
1.1 Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of this programme students should be able to demonstrate:
1. A high level of knowledge of the grammatical, discourse and pragmatic conventions which govern language use in international academic, professional and social settings and the capacity to apply this knowledge to real life settings in a range of professional topic areas.
2. A high level of knowledge in the language systems (structures, lexis, phonology) and competence in the skills of English (reading, writing, listening and speaking at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages [CEFR – Effective Operational Proficiency]).
3. An awareness and understanding of the theories underpinning translation and interpretation and the capacity to use language creatively and precisely for a range of purposes and audiences in different academic, professional, cultural and social settings
4. An awareness of the societal and inter-cultural factors that impact upon language use in international settings and contexts
5. Competence in key communication, thinking, creativity and ICT skills
6. An understanding and respect for international colleagues from the same professional field, and for their diverse cultural and social backgrounds

1.2 Intellectual Skills
By the end of this programme students should be able to demonstrate:
7. The capacity to engage in analytical and evaluative thinking
8. The capacity for critical reflection and judgement in the light of evidence and argument and to engage with, and interpret layers of, meaning within texts
9. The capacity to extract and synthesise key information from written and spoken sources
10. The capacity to organise and present ideas within the framework of a structured and reasoned argument
11. The capacity to use existing academic theories and concepts to investigate and solve new problems

1.3 Practical Skills
By the end of this programme students should be able to demonstrate:
11. Accurate and effective note-taking/making, paraphrasing and summarising skills and the capacity to produce a range of appropriate academic and professional documents
12. Efficient techniques for using source materials in English, a high level of library and bibliographic skills, the ability to analyse documents and situations and apply problem-solving techniques effectively
13. Understanding of the importance and value of independent research, together with competence in the use of a range of academically acceptable quantitative and qualitative research methods and techniques
14. The capacity to write and think under pressure and meet deadlines and to work creatively and flexibly, both autonomously and as part of a team
15. The capacity to use English language knowledge and appropriate language strategies to demonstrate effective project development and management skills

1.4 Transferable/Key Skills
By the end of this programme students should be able to demonstrate a high level of competence and understanding of the importance of interpersonal skills for:

19. With respect to the holistic nature of the Programme, it is expected also that students will be able to demonstrate:
20. Positive values, attitudes and behaviour in dealing with national and international colleagues, in order to encourage high standards of performance and to apply fairness and consistency in their professional work
21. Ability to relate to, interact with and positively support the corporate life of the national or international company or institution (e.g. school if an English Language Teacher)
22. A view of themselves as ‘improving professionals’ able to take responsibility for their own continuing professional development
23. Awareness of national philosophy, policies and expectations of professional people in Vietnam
